Shrines of Italy

Day 1

We will depart in the morning from Dublin to Dubrovnik. Upon arrival in Dubrovnik we will be met by our tour escort and transfer to Medjugorje where we will be taken to our accommodation and introduced to our host family. Light snack or dinner will be served depending on the time of arrival.

Day 2

After breakfast, there will be Holy Mass for English speaking pilgrims at 10.00am in the Church of St. James. Following mass there will be an opening meeting and introduction at the shrine of Our Lady Queen of Peace. We will hear a talk by one of the Medjugorje priests on the messages of Our Lady. We will continue to the Statue of the Risen Lord for a prayer service and climb up the Cross Mountain (Krizevac) where we will pray the Stations of the Cross as we make our way to the summit. We will return for dinner which will be followed by the evening services. Afterwards we are cordially invited to a free concert - An Evening of Prayer through Song - with David Parkes.

Day 3

Today we meet with our guides at the statue of Our Lady to walk through the vineyards, to the Hill of Apparitions (Podbrdo). We will listen to the story of the first days of the apparitions and then climb, in prayer, to the site of the first apparition. There will be a talk by one of the Medjugorje priests on the messages of Our Lady or a meeting with one of the visionaries.

Day 4

Today we will meet with another of the visionaries for a talk and prayer. We will visit St. Francis Garden where we will have our closing meeting. Following the meeting we will visit the Blue Cross, at the base of Apparition Hill, a place of many Apparitions of Our Lady. We will transfer to Split for our overnight sailing to Ancona.

Day 5

Upon arrival at the port of Ancona we will be met by our tour escort and transfer to the town of Loreto. We will celebrate Mass in the Basilica of the Holy House of Nazareth and afterwards have a tour of the basilica. Ancient tradition recounts that the Holy House of Nazareth is the same walled chamber where Mary received the angelic Annunciation. The sacred site has been venerated by millions of pilgrims, including many Popes and Saints. We will have time at leisure before continuing on to Assisi where we will stay for two nights on a half board basis.

Day 6

This morning we will celebrate Mass in the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli. Afterwards we will visit the chapel of the Porziuncola chapel of St. Francis first community, the chapel of the Transito where St. Francis died and the Rose Garden. We will transfer to the medieval town of Assisi where we will have free time for lunch. In the afternoon we will take a tour of the town visiting the Basilica of St. Francis where we will have time to admire the impressive works of Cimabue and Giotto depicting important scenes from the life of St. Francis. We will visit the Basilica of St. Clare, founder of the Order of Poor Clares and the Chiesa Nuova, built over the home of the Bernardone family. We will return to our hotel for evening meal.

Day 7

This morning we will celebrate Mass at the church and convent of San Damiano. Located in a beautiful setting just outside the walls of Assisi, it is the place where St. Francis received his miraculous calling in 1205 and where St. Clare died in 1253 an important stop on a pilgrimage to the Franciscan Holy City. We will have time at leisure for lunch and personal sightseeing in Assisi before transferring to Rome for our return flight to Dublin.
