Day 2

Saturday, 28 October This morning will celebrate Mass in the ancient church where St. Pio celebrated Mass. We will visit the English Office where we will hear about the incredible life of St. Pio and receive a blessing with the glove and crucifix of the humble friar. We will return to our hotel for lunch. In the afternoon we will have a walking tour of the sanctuary. We will visit the old tomb where the remains of Padre Pio rested for almost forty years before continuing onto the capuchin friary where we will see the cell where Padre Pio lived and died. Our tour will end with a visit to the Church of St. Pio of Pietrelcina where we will have time for private prayer and reflection before the mortal remains of the saint. We will return to our hotel for our evening meal.

Day 3

Sunday, 29 October This morning we will have a tour of the hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza, considered to be Padre Pios greatest creation. We will walk the Way of the Cross before returning to our hotel for lunch. In the afternoon we will celebrate Mass at the nearby Convent of Stignano. According to legend, in 1216 St. Francis of Assisi passed through the valley of Stignano on his way to the Grotto of St. Michael the Archangel. Amazed by it beauty, he stopped and blessed the fruits of this area. We will visit the church which dates back to 1515 and is today in the care of the Franciscan Order. Upon our return to San Giovanni Rotondo we will visit the cemetery where the parents of Padre Pio, Fr. Alessio and Fr. Ermelindo are buried.

LAmericana as she was fondly known by the locals gave up her wealthy lifestyle and came to San Giovanni Rotondo. She built a house and welcomed the many pilgrims who had come to San Giovanni Rotondo to meet with Padre Pio.
