Daily Itinerary for the 15 May 2020
Day 1 – Friday, May 15
Depart Las Vegas airport for over night flight to Vienna.
Day 2 – Saturday, May 16
On arrival at Vienna airport we will collect our bags and meet our guide in the arrival hall before boarding our coach for a transfer to our hotel. Here we will check-in to our hotel for 3 nights, with a meal on arrival.
Day 3 – Sunday, May 17
After breakfast we will enjoy a sightseeing of Vienna, home of Strauss and Mozart and one of the most beautiful cities in the world. We see the spectacular St. Stephen’s cathedral, where we’ll see the miraculous image of Our Lady of Mariapocs, tour the Cathedral and its catacombs, and those strong and brave may climb the 343 steps to the top of the Cathedral spire. We go to Karlsplatz with its Church of St. Charles Borromeo and Otto Wagner’s Stadtbahn pavilions. Somewhere along the way we will have a little coffee break to enjoy the famous Vienna pastries such as Sacher cake on your own. In the evening we will attend the world famous Strauss Concert with dinner.
Day 4 – Monday, May 18
Morning drive through the Vienna Woods to the Cistercian Abbey of Heiligenkreuz, Celebrate Mass before continuing to Mayerling to see the Memorial Chapel in the hunting lodge where the tragedy of Crown Prince
Rudolf happened. On the way back to Vienna stop at the Roman city of Baden for lunch (not included). Free time this afternoon in Vienna with an optional visit of the Schonbrunn Royal palace and summer house with 1,441 rooms including a Hall of Mirrors where Mozart performed at the age of six before a young Marie Antoinette. View of the Belvedere palace well known by its beautiful gardens.
Day 5 – Tuesday, May 19
Drive to Krems, a 1,000 year old city surrounded by Wine Terraces, and join cruise on River Danube, through the Wachau Valley, to Melk. Sights along the Danube include : Gottweig Benedictine Abbey, Durnstein’s Blue Abbey Church, Aggstein – where bandits used to bloch the Danube to plunder ships, Spitz Castle and ruins of Hinterhaus Castle, Schonbuhel Castle, Willendorf – where the 25.000 year old Fertility Statuette “Venus of
Willendorf” was discovered, Emmersdorv cyclist village, and Melk where we visit the Benedictine Monastery and Stift Church.Continue to Salzburg and check into hotel for 3 nights, dinner, bed & breakfast.
Day 6 – Wednesday, May 20
Morning short drive to Mount Kehlstein and take a brass-lined elevator to the Eagles Nest - Adolf Hitler’s famous mountain retreat. After lunch we will visit the Saltmines at Berchtesgaden. Enjoy the visitor Train trip, the Slide in the Salt Cathedral, and the Raft on the Mirror Lake. We return to Salzburg for an early dinner and some free time to enjoy Salzburg at night.
Day 7 – Thursday, May 21
After breakfast we will have Mass in the Old Town of Salzburg. After Mass we have a guided tour of Salzburg. On this walk of the Old Town we visit the Cathedral and St. Peter’s Abbey, the Residence and the Fortress, Mozart’s Birthplace, the Festival-Theatres, the oldest pharmacy and
the oldest café, Salzach river, the mountains in town and many other sights. After lunch we have some free time followed by Dinner in St. Peter’s restaurant & overnight at hotel.
Day 8 – Friday, May 22
Morning departure for Oberammergau and check into our hotel for 1 night, which includes dinner and Category 1 Tickets for the Passion Play. This morning is free to explore the lovely village of Oberammergau and visit the Museum & celebrate Mass at a local church. Enjoy some time to explore Oberammergau’s colorful frescos known as “Luftlmalereien” on house facades and to visit wood carving shops with amazing array of nativity scenes and religious figures. Following lunch, we will make our way to the world famous theatre to attend the performance of a lifetime, the 42nd Oberammergau Passion Play. The sleepy village springs to life every ten years to put on a play that draws the world upon it! We, too, will become part of mission of the Passion of Christ, the greatest story ever told. We all
share His message of faith and love! Oberammergau Passion Play The Oberammergau Passion Play tells the story of the Passion of Christ, beginning with His entry into Jerusalem, followed by His trial, crucifixion, resurrection and ascension. The play is held in a beautiful open air theatre
that is praised for its superb acoustics. There are 2,000 actors (and live animals), they include local wood carvers, hotel owners, students, teachers, children, all of them interrupt their schedules to become actors, singers, orchestra members and stagehands. Requirements are strict: all actors must be born in Oberammergau, or have lived there 20 years, or be married to a villager and a resident for 10 years. All natural makeup, such as men let their hair and beards grow a year before the play. Female roles are limited to single women under age 35. The Play is approximately five
and a half hours long and is performed in two acts. Act I : 2:30pm - 5:00pm Intermission: 5:30pm - 7:30pm; enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. Act II: 8:00pm - 10:30pm
Day 9 – Saturday, May 23
This morning we have some free time to explore the town of Oberammergau and walk the quaint streets. The incredible 2,000
Oberammergau citizens are the actual actors, singers, instrumentalists and stage technicians. They are ordinary citizens who lead an everyday life. After lunch we will take a visit to King Ludwigs Neuschwanstein Castle.
The Castle was adopted by Walt Disney as the Castle of the Sleeping Beauty in Disneyland. Continue to Wieskirche Pilgrimage church (church of the weeping statue) for Mass and admire this magnificent work of art. Drive
to Munich, where we check into hotel for 2 nights, on full board.
Day 10 – Sunday, May 24
This morning we will have Mass in Munich, followed by a guided tour of Germany’s “Secret Capital”, exploring the enchanting Old Town squares and hearing the city’s history. During a walking tour, you’ll learn about landmarks such as the Glockenspiel, Munich Hofbräuhaus, and the Royal Residence, and hear tales of wartime history. Find out fun facts about the beer purity law and the annual Oktoberfest, and enjoy photo stops aplenty as you walk your way around the city. After lunch you will have some free time for shopping or sightseeing. Dinner in the hotel.
Day 11 – Monday, May 25
After breakfast our coach departs for to town
of Wengen above Interlaken. On route we stop
in Lichtenstein for lunch and a bit of shopping. Continue to the town of Wengen above Interlaken to our hotel where we check-in for 3 nights, with bed & breakfast & 2 dinners.
Day 12 – Tuesday, May 26
Fabulous full day trip to Lauterbrunnen, Murren, Schilthorn, Stechelberg and the great Trummelbach Falls. Travel by mountain railways and cable-cars, (where the James Bond film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” was filmed), and have lunch in the rotating restaurant on the Schilthorn peak. After lunch and some free time, we will head back to the hotel to freshed up for dinner and overnight.
Day 13 – Wednesday, May 27
This morning we travel by rail to Grindelwald and connect with a cog-wheel railway to Kleina Scheidegg via the mighty Eiger. Relax at the foot of the snow-capped Yungfrau peak. After lunch we return to the beautiful town of Wengen for some free time or, for those who wish, a tour of Interlacken. Dinner and overnight in our hotel.
Day 14 – Thursday, May 28
After breakfast we travel to Zürich and check in to our hotel for 1 night. Some free time in Zürich or optional evening tour of the city before dinner at our hotel.
Day 15 – Friday, May 29
After breakfast our coach departs for Holy Mass in Zürich and after we transfer to Zürich airport for return flight to USA.
